Marvel Cosmic Invasion Reveals 2 Surprise Playable Characters

ReidGames2025-07-289290

Marvel Cosmic Invasion has introduced two more exciting playable characters from Marvel Comics that will be available once the game is released, as Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill will be joining the fray. An old-school-style pixel art beat-em-up, Marvel Cosmic Invasion looks to capture the essence of classic franchises like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage within the rich, ever-popular Marvel Universe.

With a vast universe to pull from, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is coming in hot with 15 characters, though not all of them have been unveiled. So far, Marvel favorites like Spider-Man, Captain America, Venom, and two of the most popular X-Men in Storm and Wolverine have been confirmed. Lesser-known characters like Nova and Phyla-Vell are also joining the party in Cosmic Invasion. The two most recent heroes that have been revealed were She-Hulk and Rocket Raccoon last month during Summer Game Fest, leaving six more characters yet to be announced before today.

Now, Marvel Cosmic Invasion has revealed two more Marvel characters that'll be playable on its roster, as Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill join the fight. The former is quite a timely addition, as Silver Surfer, played by the talented Julia Garner, is a prominent character in Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps film, which hits theaters today, July 25. As for Beta Ray Bill, he's one of Marvel's more niche and wacky characters who has origins in 1983's The Mighty Thor #337.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Reveals Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill

With four spots still left to be filled before the game releases later this year, there's no telling who will join Marvel Cosmic Invasion's roster. Only two X-Men have made the list so far, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see a hero like Cyclops or Rogue be revealed next. Popular Avengers like Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Thor are still on the table, though with Beta Ray Bill confirmed, the latter seems unlikely. Deadpool is also a possibility, though his humor and antics don't seem to be what Marvel Cosmic Invasion is going for. It's worth noting that Hela appears briefly at the very end of the trailer, but it's not confirmed whether she'll be playable. It's nice to see more niche characters like Beta Ray Bill get a spotlight in a Marvel game like this, as Cosmic Invasion's multiplayer cousin, Marvel Rivals, has also found success bringing lesser-known, zanier playable characters to the game, like Squirrel Girl and Jeff the Shark.

Although Marvel Cosmic Invasion still doesn't have a release date, it's expected to be coming out sometime before the end of 2025. With the game having appeared at Summer Game Fest last month, there's a strong chance that it could show up again at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August to unveil more playable characters and perhaps even finalize its release date.
