Elden Ring Nightreign is getting a major update on July 30 that will add the long-awaited Duo Expeditions mode and more. When Elden Ring Nightreign was first revealed, fans were skeptical about the game's co-op focus. That skepticism became even more intense when it was announced that Elden Ring Nightreign would only be playable solo or in groups of three, with no option for a duos mode.
At the time, FromSoftware rationalized the lack of a 2-player mode in Elden Ring Nightreign as due to balancing issues. But since the game could be played solo, it left many fans scratching their heads as to why duos couldn't be done. Eventually, FromSoftware changed its tune about Elden Ring Nightreign duos, and teased that the feature could be added to the game at some point after launch.

Elden Ring Nightreign Missing One Everdark Sovereign Is Terrifying and Intriguing in Equal Measure
There’s one Nightlord missing from the ranks of Elden Ring Nightreign’s Everdark Sovereigns, and FromSoftware could be planning something wild.
PostsIt's now been confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will add its official duos mode, called Duo Expeditions, on Wednesday, July 30. The Duo Expeditions mode will be a part of patch 1.02 for Elden Ring Nightreign, which will also include quality-of-life UI improvements like more Relics filtering options, according to the description of the duos trailer. Full patch notes for the big Elden Ring Nightreign update on July 30 will come at a later date.
Elden Ring Nightreign is Getting a 2-Player Mode on July 30
It will be interesting to see how the addition of a 2-player mode impacts the perception of Elden Ring Nightreign. While it earned mostly positive scores, Elden Ring Nightreign reviews weren't nearly as high as the original Elden Ring or the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. It's possible the addition of a 2-player mode will draw new players to the game and make it held in a higher regard. Then again, it seems that those that aren't thrilled about Elden Ring Nightreign are the ones that prefer single-player FromSoftware experiences, so time will tell how it all shakes out.
CloseFromSoftware seems committed to multiplayer and co-op experiences, at least in the short term. Not only is Elden Ring Nightreign a game built with co-op in mind, but FromSoftware's next game is an 8-player PvEvP game called The Duskbloods. The Duskbloods is a Switch 2 exclusive that has a lot of aesthetic similarities to Bloodborne. What separates The Duskbloods from Elden Ring Nightreign, though, is the fact that Hidetaka Miyazaki is in the director's chair. Miyazaki is FromSoftware's star director, having led development on Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, and the original Elden Ring, so his track record speaks for itself.
