Borderlands 4 is giving players a deep dive into one of the long-awaited sequel's new Vault Hunters, showing off the melee-oriented gameplay of the Exo-Soldier Rafa. Gearbox has been giving fans plenty to look forward to with Borderlands 4's launch later this year, making some major changes to the franchise. Borderlands 4 will whisk players to a brand-new planet for the first time in the franchise, introducing several new characters and even some new weapon manufacturers. Now, another member of the game's main cast is having their gameplay teased.
Alongside the multitude of changes coming to the franchise's standard formula, Borderlands 4 will feature a cast of four brand-new Vault Hunters for players to choose from. Players can take control of Rafa the Exo-Soldier, Vex the Dark Siren, Harlowe the Gravitar, and Amon the Forge Knight. Gearbox has already begun to tease some details about Borderlands 4's playable cast, with a previous trailer showing off Vex's gameplay. The second Vault Hunter featured in Borderlands 4 has now received his own gameplay showcase.

Borderlands 4 appears to be bringing back a core feature that has been a big part of every game in the franchise to this point.

Rafa is said to focus heavily on melee attacks as one of his main sources of damage, utilizing his Arc Knives to get up close and personal. Rafa's Arc Knives Action Skill shifts the game into a third-person perspective, allowing him to nimbly weave through and slice down enemies. The video also provides more details about Rafa's "Peacebreaker Cannons" Remote Agent, giving him a rapid-fire turret that fires on enemies alongside the player.
Borderlands 4 Reveals Rafa Gameplay
Rafa's gameplay showcase gives plenty of ideas for how players can customize their own build for the character as well. Upgrades for the Arc Knives can allow players to change Rafa's dash attack and even alter its damage type, offering the ability to add corrosive damage. The Peacebreaker Cannons can be swapped with a variety of different weapons like shotguns and lasers. One of the game's developers even mentions their own personal test build for Rafa centering around grenades, allowing players to even dual-wield grenades in combat.

Two of Borderlands 4's Vault Hunters are still waiting on their full showcases, with Harlowe and Amon likely to see their reveals in the coming weeks. Borderlands 4 has also shown several past characters set to make their return, including franchise staples Claptrap and Mad Moxxi among others.
