Infinity Nikki Players Are Praising the New Update

GabrielleGames2025-07-092900

Infinity Nikki released Version 1.7 on July 8, and the update has garnered praise from its community for finally embracing the darker tone that the franchise is known for. When Infinity Nikki launched in December 2024, it won critical and popular acclaim, establishing itself as a cozy open-world experience that blended combat, exploration, puzzles, and dress-up elements. Infold enjoyed plenty of goodwill as Infinity Nikki eyed its next milestone, a launch on Steam with the release of Version 1.5.

Unfortunately, Version 1.5 was met with severe backlash when it launched. Many Infinity Nikki players couldn't even start the game, missing out on their login rewards. Among its criticisms, the majority of them were levied against the Sea of Stars, a co-op zone that introduced a rather infantilizing grind, devoid of any meaningful content. While Serenity Island was a highlight of Version 1.5, it was ultimately buried by the update's major issues, as Infinity Nikki players organized a boycott of the game.

Version 1.6 of Infinity Nikki was delayed as a result of the backlash, and its popularity was directly affected by the ongoing boycott. While it managed to stop the bleeding, it was very much a band-aid fix to a problem that may take Infold months to address. However, with the launch of Version 1.7, the Infinity Nikki community appears to have regained some of its excitement about the world of Miraland. As seen in a recent thread on Reddit made by Mailynn393, many players have given praise to the update's darker and more mature storyline.

Infinity Nikki Players Are Loving the New Storytelling Direction

Compared to its predecessors, Nikki veterans felt that the game lost its edge by misunderstanding the difference between cozy and childish. This was one of the main criticisms of not just Version 1.5, but how Infinity Nikki approached its storytelling overall. While Serenity Island and the Queen's Palace were notable departures from this formula, players wanted more mature content reminiscent of the franchise's earlier entries. It would seem that Infold's answer to that is Version 1.7, arguably the first step towards rebuilding the goodwill it had prior to Version 1.5.

Despite the resurgence in popularity, Infinity Nikki still has lingering issues to address. Misleading prices in the shop, a heavily monetized dye system, and a nonsensical prologue are all a part of the experience. As such, the community will likely adopt a cautious approach to Infold going forward. For many players, Version 1.8 will likely be the deciding point, as the developers are preparing to add the highly anticipated housing system to Infinity Nikki in the coming update.
