Arkansas Trooper Pulls Over McLaren, Has No Idea What It Is

People are getting a chuckle from the dashcam footage of an Arkansas trooper as she pulls over a speeding McLaren 765LT and obviously has no idea what it is. In fact, we believe she at first tells dispatch she’s pulling over a “Lambo.” Later, as the supercar slows to a stop, she reads the badge and butchers the McLaren name.

Trooper chases a stolen Camaro and tragedy follows.

This just backs up what we’ve said many times before: cops aren’t car experts. Some do know a lot about cars, but a lot of cops don’t. But don’t tell them that, because many of them think they can correctly identify vehicles in a flash.

Yet there are plenty of incidents where police have incorrectly identified a vehicle, spiking tires and even pitting innocent people. It happens.

Your average person doesn’t even know McLaren exists as a company, nor could they spot one without reading the badge. It’s a niche brand, one known mostly by gearheads and people in elite circles. Plus, we doubt many are tooling around Fayetteville, Arkansas with its population of just over 100,000.

Once the trooper steps up to the supercar, we learn she clocked it going 92 mph in a 55 mph zone. In some areas that’s a quick trip to jail, but she’s pretty nice about the speeding violation and everything else that follows.

What’s even more outrageous about this traffic stop is the McLaren driver doesn’t have his insurance and registration on hand. If you’re driving a supercar, which is incredibly easy to accidentally speed in, you better have those papers handy.

Even worse, the Maryland tag comes back as invalid. And there’s some question about if he even has it insured. Surely the guy has the money to get the supercar registered in Arkansas and carry at least basic insurance on it, right?

To the guy’s credit, he didn’t take off when the trooper turned on her lights. He easily could’ve dusted her and she would’ve had all her colleagues looking for a Lamborghini. Even after reading the rear badge repeatedly, she keeps calling it a “McLoren.”
