Disney’s long-in-development Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has received a new update, after nearly a month since franchise star Orlando Bloom confirmed that the project is still in active development. Bloom portrayed the role of Will Turner in the first three installments of the blockbuster franchise. He was last seen by fans in 2007’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, in which Will became the new captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Will Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

According to a new Pirates of the Caribbean 6 rumor, the studio is reportedly planning to bring back Depp’s Jack Sparrow in a supporting role in the new installment. Just like previous installments, Jerry Bruckheimer is once again serving as a producer. At the moment, its unclear if the next movie would tell a new standalone story, or would it serve as a continuation of 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

In a previous interview, Bloom expressed his desire to return to the franchise, and reunite with the original cast of Pirates of the Caribbean. “I, personally, think it would be great to get the band back together. I think that would be great. But there are always different ideas, so we’ll see where it lands,” he said.

Before public allegations of domestic abuse against Depp by ex-wife Amber Heard, the studio originally enlisted Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot to pen the screenplay. However, initial plans eventually fell through, after Depp was reportedly removed from the project due his defamation trial against Heard. In 2020, Margot Robbie was originally attached to star in a Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off written by Birds of Prey’s Christina Hodson. However, after two years, Robbie revealed that the project was dead, revealing that while it was a “really cool” idea, Disney didn’t “want to do it.”
