A Best-Seller Nearing a Big Change
The Mitsubishi Outlander has quietly become the brand's most important model in the U.S., a steady seller in a shrinking lineup. With its three-row capacity, relatively affordable price point, and now a plug-in hybrid variant, it's easy to see why it remains a volume driver for the brand.
For 2026, Mitsubishi is preparing a substantial update for both the gas and PHEV variants of the Outlander, bringing changes to its powertrain, interior, and chassis.
But while that new version is on the way, the outgoing 2025 model is seeing some of the biggest discounts we've seen from the brand in years – enough to maybe make buyers pause and reconsider whether waiting for the refreshed model is really worth it.

2025 Outlander Discounts Hit as Much as $12,000
A quick scan of nationwide listings on Cars.com reveals that 2025 Mitsubishi Outlanders are currently being advertised with up to $12,000 off MSRP, with well-equipped trims like the SEL Touring and Black Edition now dipping into the low-to-mid $20,000s in some states. Even base ES trims are being listed at below $24,000, which is a serious bargain for a new three-row SUV.
The plug-in hybrid version is also showing similar markdowns, with select Outlander PHEVs selling for as low as $32,000, down from MSRP stickers often in the low $40,000s. For buyers looking for practical family haulers or electrified options without the premium pricing, these deals represent a rare opportunity.
Of note, these heavy discounts hint at a push to clear dealer lots ahead of the incoming 2026 model, which leaves questions concerning long-term value and resale.

What You'll Miss Out on the Updated Outlander
Those opting for the discounted 2025 model will miss out on some meaningful upgrades. The 2026 Outlander swaps its underwhelming 2.5-liter engine for a new 1.5-liter turbocharged unit – borrowed and mildly hybridized from the Eclipse Cross – with better off-the-line response. The plug-in hybrid, meanwhile, gains a larger battery for longer EV range and retuned suspension for sharper handling.
Both variants will also feature refreshed styling, including new front and rear designs, as well as a redesigned interior with upgraded materials, improved storage, and added amenities like a standard Yamaha-designed audio system and cooled seats.
While the 2025 model remains competent and generously discounted, buyers going that route will be passing up what could be Mitsubishi's most refined and tech-forward Outlander yet.
Mitsubishi has yet to release the pricing for the 2026 Outlander and Outlander PHEV, expected to arrive later this year.
