Eddy Current Suppression Ring have announced a huge free show in their hometown of Melbourne, performing at Federation Square in the city’s CBD on Friday, September 26th – which also serves as the night before the AFL grand final. It will mark the band’s biggest headlining show of their career, with a capacity of up to 10,000 people in the immediate vicinity, as well as their first public headlining show in Melbourne since 2010 following their failed attempt to do so in April 2020.

Joining the band on the night as support acts will be American rapper Edan and fellow Melbourne band Wrong Way Up. The former is returning to Australia for the first time in 20 years, having last visited in support of his 2005 debut album Beauty & The Beat, while the latter are a spinoff of Melbourne band Broadway Sounds featuring alum Emmanuela Degery and Andrew Phillips.

In a press statement, Sarah Tutton – the head of programming at Federation Square – described Eddy Current as “a band woven into the fabric of Melbourne’s music history”. “[They are] raw, fearless and utterly electrifying live,” she said. “We’re delighted to welcome them back to the city for what promises to be a truly unforgettable night at Fed Square, continuing our commitment to creating unmissable free, all-ages events that celebrate the best of local and international music right in the heart of Melbourne.”

Eddy Current Suppression Ring – ‘Swimming Hole’

Eddy Current Suppression Ring released their fourth album, All In Good Time, in November 2019. They announced a tour in support of it for the following April, but it was ultimately cancelled and never rescheduled. The band’s activity has quietly spiked throughout 2025, releasing two new singles: ‘Swimming Hole’ and ‘Shapes And Forms’. The latter was part of a three-track seven-inch the band released earlier this month, serving as the title track. They have also played a handful of secret shows in and around Melbourne throughout the year, never publicly announcing their presence.

The announcement of Eddy Current’s performance in Federation Square follows on from a string of major international acts performing on the open-air stage – including Robbie Williams, Caribou and Kneecap. The lattermost performance, in particular, drew headlines nationally back in March 2025 with a record-setting crowd that almost crossed the street to St Paul’s Cathedral on Flinders Street.

In addition to performing at Fed Square, the band are also set to play two all-ages shows at Singing Bird in Frankston on Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th. They will also perform at The Sound Doctor in Anglesea on Friday, October 3rd. The Singing Bird shows have already sold out after being announced this morning (July 22nd); however, limited tickets remain for the Anglesea show. Tickets for that are available now via Eventbrite.
