WAAX Announce New Single ‘Ur A Rat’ + East Coast Australian Tour Dates

WAAX has begun the roll-out for the first music of its new era, following the revival of the band in late 2023 by frontwoman Maz DeVita. ‘Ur A Rat’ is set for release on Friday, August 8th, and will mark the first new WAAX music since their 2022 album At Least I’m Free. To support the release of the single, DeVita will take WAAX on the road across the east coast in August and September 2025.
WAAX have been playing ‘Ur A Rat’ live since late last year. In a statement shared to her social media, DeVita had only this to say about the new song: “It’s cunty.” The Australian shows will be as part of the Jerry Can & A Van tour, which was undertaken by The Belair Lip Bombs last year with support from a range of different support acts including Hoon, Private Wives and Mac The Knife.

WAAX released At Least I’m Free in August of 2022, debuting at number 20 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The ensuing 18 months, however, would prove to be tumultuous. After announcing a national tour with Private Function to support the album, the band announced the tour’s cancellation a month later – having only completed nine of the planned 22 tour dates. Lead guitarist James Gatling exited the band following the cancellation, having joined the band three years prior in 2019. The band announced a final show for June 2023 at The Triffid in their hometown of Brisbane, with surviving members DeVita, guitarist Ewan Birtwell and drummer Tom Bloomfield participating.

She has been joined in various live iterations by members of bands such as Vacations, Cry Club, Wayside and Fan Girl as session players, as well as a one-off Los Angeles show where DeVita was joined by former Camp Cope frontwoman Georgia Maq on bass.
