If you’re into drifting and you want something unusual, this old UPS delivery truck that’s been heavily modified might be it. We recently ran across this crazy build listed for sale online. It comes with an interesting story and some issues.
Check out this wildly unique Ferrari build.
Back in 2019, MotorTrend produced a show called Drift This. In the premiere episode, they explain the premise of the series is all about taking a vehicle you never thought you’d see at a drift competition, turning it into a competent drifter.
That’s why they started off with a bang, converting this old UPS truck so it can in fact drift. You can see that premiere episode here.

Obviously, with a turbodiesel engine designed for efficiency and longevity as drivers go short distances between stops, the powertrain in the UPS truck had to be swapped out for something spicier.
In the ad, the owner says he just put a rebuilt 6.0-liter LS V8 in the thing. We assume that’s the same LS installed on it for the show, but it’s not entirely clear why the thing had to be rebuilt. The owner does say the engine is “built for boost” which is good considering the giant Garrett turbo you see climbing out of the hood.
While that all sounds nice, there is one tiny little issue: the transmission. As you know, transmission issues can in fact be huge problems. According to the seller, the “engine runs just needs to finish wiring up the transmission.”
We always wonder when someone’s selling a car that “just” needs something they try to play off as simple why the seller didn’t just do that if it’s no big deal?

The seller does say he’s throwing in a freshly rebuilt transmission to sweeten the deal, not because this van eats transmissions (wink, wink).
Maybe this thing is so cool you can look past the transmission issue and still pull the trigger? Maybe you need more info?
Would you drift this?
