Property investment company SPR Redfire has acquired the Apple Tree Hotel, capitalising on the growing requirement for accommodation near Hinkley Point Power Station in the UK.
Located near Nether Stowey, the property was sold for an undisclosed amount.
UK-based business property adviser Christie & Co facilitated the transaction with Christie & Co Hotels director Stephen Champion managing the sale.
A SPR Redfire spokesperson said: “We are proud to bring the Apple Tree Hotel into the SPR Redfire portfolio. Demand is here, and growing, and we’re delivering real solutions. There’s an urgent need for high-quality contractor accommodation for Hinkley Point C and Gravity, but our vision goes further.
“We want to provide modern, reliable places to stay today, while laying the groundwork for smarter, community-focused social housing across Somerset in the future.”
The Apple Tree Hotel features 16 guest bedrooms, a bar, a restaurant, and a separate three-bedroom house within its 1.5 acres of gardens. It is around five miles from the town of Bridgwater.
Former owners Simon and Gillian Brice, who have managed the hotel since 2001, sold the property as part of their retirement plans.
Champion said: “The number of workers in the UK involved in the construction of Hinkley Point C has now reached 18,000, marking a major milestone in the development of one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.
“In line with this growth, there has been a notable increase in demand for hotels located within the catchment area of the power station. Investors are actively seeking opportunities to capitalise on the rising need for accommodation, driven by the influx of workers and associated economic activity in the region.”
Earlier this month, Christie & Co also facilitated the sale of The Windermere Hotel in Cumbria and four other hotels in England.
