The Nissan Ariya is a hidden EV gem

For those who didn’t know, the Nissan Ariya was introduced a few years ago to mostly positive reviews, particularly for its build quality and drivability. The only major issue at launch was its initial pricing, which felt a bit high compared to the competition. Fortunately, Nissan recently lowered pricing across the Ariya lineup, making it much more competitive, and that’s a great step forward.

That’s because the Ariya is a fantastic EV to drive and live with. It’s comfortable, quick, handles beautifully, and serves well as a utilitarian SUV. It offers a calm and composed ride, along with a thoughtfully designed interior that makes everyday commuting or road trips enjoyable. There are several strong competitors in this class, including the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Honda Prologue, Toyota bZ4X, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and others. Even so, I believe the Ariya holds its own with competitive driving dynamics, solid build quality, and now, a more reasonable price.

Depending on the battery size, range estimates vary from 216 to 289 miles according to the EPA. On the safety front, the Ariya scores big. Both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it high marks. The NHTSA gave it a full 5 out of 5 stars in overall safety, and the IIHS awarded the Ariya a Top Safety Pick+ designation.

The Nissan Ariya ENGAGE FWD makes for an excellent commuter vehicle. With a smooth, compliant ride and surprisingly athletic performance when needed, it strikes a great balance between comfort and capability. It feels composed and confident whether you're navigating city streets or cruising on the freeway. On the practicality front, the 2025 Ariya offers versatile cargo space—22.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and up to 59.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat.
