In case you forgot, Rashee Rice of the Kansas City Chiefs caused a huge crash on a highway in Dallas, Texas last year. Rice was driving a rented Lamborghini Urus at the time, and his buddy was driving his C8 Corvette, as the two raced each other on a busy highway, ultimately crashing into several other vehicles.
Actress Emma Watson has had her driving privileges taken away.
Multiple people were injured in the wreck, cars were totaled, and Rice’s future seemed uncertain. But it seems he got a nice plea bargain from the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. While he plead built to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury, the judge ordered him to serve just 30 days in jail.
That might not seem fair to some, but good legal counsel can work miracles, even though that doesn’t come cheap.
On the flip side, Rice had to pay over $115,000 in restitution to his victims, reports ESPN. He’s also serving five years of probation. The judge ruled he can serve those 30 days in jail anytime over those five years.
Considering he’s probably going to be suspended by the NFL for multiple games this season, he might want to spend that time in the slammer.
But for the next five years, he’ll have to keep his nose clean or face some big consequences since the plea agreement involved deferred adjudication.
Through his attorney, Rice released the following statement about the plea bargain:
"Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole. I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart.”
"Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families."
