Gen V season 2 is only a few months away, so get your cape and Compound V reserves ready because we are going back to Godolkin University. If you watched the first season of The Boys spin-off, then you know what to expect – lots of brutal action and gore, sharp political commentaries, and a twist to the traditional superhero formula. So, what's next?

The first season followed a group of superpowered students who struggled to control their own abilities while trying to take down Vought's sinister Supe testing labs, but the ending of Gen V season 1 left the main heroes in a difficult spot. In the new episodes, which are directly affected by what happened in The Boys season 4, Marie and the rest go back to school to find out that Sam and Cate have been crowned the Guardians of Godolkin. And that's only the start of their problems.

With The Boys season 5 filming now wrapped, and a bunch of new casting announcements now revealed during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Prime Video's superhero universe keeps growing, and we can't wait to see what's in store. Here we dive into Gen V season 2, bringing you all the latest news, theories, and updates. Below, we've gathered everything you need to know about the Gen V season 2 release date, confirmed cast, plot, trailers, and more.

Gen V season 2 will release with a three-episode premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, September 17. From then on, new episodes will drop weekly, and the final episode will hit the streamer on October 22.

The release date was confirmed during the Prime Video panel at CCXP Mexico alongside the season's first teaser. Season 2 is coming slightly earlier in the year than its predecessor did, with season 1 hitting Prime Video on September 29, 2023.

Filming on Gen V season 2 wrapped in November 2024. However, the road to completion was not an easy one for the superhero show. Production on the series was initially due to begin in late March/early April but was delayed to May, following Chance Perdomo's death. However, filming started again on July 16, 2024. Then, on March 30, 2025, creator Eric Kripke gave us a promising update confirming that editing on every episode had finished with just music and VFX left to do.

Before Perdomo's death, we would have expected the actor to join Jaz Sinclair (Marie), Derek Luh/London Thor (Jordan), Lizze Broadway (Emma), Maddie Phillips (Cate), and Asa Germann (Sam) as part of the Gen V season 2 cast. Since then, Prime Video has confirmed that Andre Anderson won't be recast.

"As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at Gen V is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory," a statement released on social media reads. "We won't be recasting the role because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season."

Those who won't be returning after the explosive Gen V season 1 ending include Marco Pigossi (Dr. Edison Cardosa), Dean Indira Shetty (Shelley Conn), and Professor Richard Brinkerhoff (Clancy Brown). Although he frequently appears throughout Season 1 via flashbacks, Patrick Schwarzenegger will not be returning as Sam, as the actor was unable to accommodate his schedule (presumably while he was filming The White Lotus in Thailand).

Hamish Linklater is set to join the cast as the character Cipher (very exciting, we know). The rest of the new additions to the cast are as follows: Keeya King (Yellowjackets), Stephen Kalyn (Warrior Strong), Julia Knope (In The Dark), Stacey McGunnigle (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Tait Fletcher (The Mandalorian), Wyatt Dorion (Eerie Hall), and Georgie Murphy (Accused). Per Deadline, the actors will appear in recurring roles, though character names have not yet been released.

Chance Crawford will also appear as The Deep in the new season. We'd also speculate that The Boys characters Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie) and Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) will return, given that their cameos turned into more plot-significant roles towards the end of season 1.

The cast list for Gen V season 2 is as follows:

Gen V season 2 plot

After a bloody and chaotic season 1 finale, you would think that Godlkin University would be facing some serious changes. Like, half the school did just die in a terrible and downright unbelievable blood bath. But this is the world of the Supes, and class is officially back in session at God U.

Gen V season 1 ended on a massive cliffhanger, with Cate and Sam unexpectedly turning the whole world, or at least Godolkin University, upside down. After liberating The Woods, Cate and Sam lead the formerly imprisoned Supes on a killing spree throughout campus. Marie and co. are tasked with stopping them and almost succeed until Homelander shows up and subdues Marie with a laser blast.

We learn that a global news broadcast painted Marie, Emma, Jordan, and Andre as the campus killers and Cate and Sam as the real heroes – something that Cate likely conjured up with her super-strong manipulation powers. It's all very familiar to The Boys season 4, to be honest, and that’s no surprise, as showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed pretty early on that Gen V season 2 will take place directly after the events of The Boys season 4.

In the first Gen V season 2 teaser, we saw Godolkin be directly affected by The Boys' season 4 ending after Homelander took over the Oval Office and Martial Law was declared. Although we cannot be certain if what happens in Gen V season 2 will directly impact The Boys' season 5 releases, we do know that The Deep from the main series will appear in the spin-off as well as Homelander, if only on a poster.

Alongside the first teaser, Prime Video finally provided an official synopsis for Gen V season 2, which reads: "As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss."

However, sophomore year at Godlokin won’t be like anything we remember from our college years. "But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it."

Gen V season 2 trailer

On June 1, 2025, Prime Video released the first teaser trailer for Gen V season 2, giving us our first look at Marie Moreau and her fellow student supes back at God U.

The trailer opens with the university's new dean, Cipher, welcoming Marie back to school after she, Jordan, and Emma were held captive in Vought's underground testing facility known as The Woods. But the world above is not as Marie remembers it.

After being met off a bus by Cate, Marie and her friends see how the world has changed after Homelander put Supes in great positions of power at the end of The Boys season 4. Now, Godlokin segregates humans and Supes, and the university is surrounded by prison-like barricades. Inside is not much better, as banners reveal that Jordan and Emma are now part of the Guardians of Godolkin alongside Cate and Sam.

The rest of the clip shows the new dean putting the students through Hunger Games-like training where he tells them they are now soldiers, not students. Elsewhere, Marie, Jordan, and Emma prepare for a bloody rebellion at the heart of Godolkin. "Whatever we do, we do it together", says Marie to her classmates.
