Free Marion lecture explores bees’ role in food and farming

The benefits of beekeeping will be featured during the next Buckeye Talks on Tap sponsored by The Ohio State University at Marion.

Tthe free lecture titled “The Buzz on Beekeeping: Symbiosis & Sustainability” will take place Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Bucci’s Italian Scratch Kitchen.

The presentation will be led by students Eric Bailey and Todd Lee, who are also military veterans. They will discuss their bee apiary project at Ohio State Marion's Larry R. Yoder Prairie Learning Laboratory, according to an announcement The students also will share insights from their participation in the Central Ohio Beekeepers Association Veterans' Beekeeping School. The lecture will cover the ecological benefits of introducing hives to the prairie and highlight the honeybee's essential role in agriculture and food production globally.

Buckeye Talks on Tap occurs on the second Tuesday of each month at Bucci’s, located at 320 W. Center St. The series is modeled after the international Science Cafe phenomenon, which fosters engaging conversations in casual settings between academic experts and the community on various topics.

During the events, Ohio State faculty and community experts present the latest research on timely subjects, including the environment, health and wellness, and engineering. The aim is to connect the campus and the community through open discussions about relevant topics that interest residents of the Marion area.

Attendees are encouraged to enjoy food and drinks during the lecture. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the lecture starting at 5:30. A question-and-answer session follows at 6 p.m.
