C8 Corvette ZR1 Demand Outstrips SupplyWith astounding performance on tap, it seems the C8 Corvette ZR1 is so popular, demand has far outstripped supply. That means some people who ordered one back in April won’t bet getting their vehicle anytime soon.
Porsche has doubled the number of AWD 911 models.
Instead, GM reportedly emailed dealers, telling them some people will have to wait for the 2026 model year to get their C8 ZR1. You might think there are thousands of orders or something like that, but apparently only 310 people put in orders for the 2025 model year.
That’s right, Bowling Green Assembly is struggling to complete that many of the supercars. Why exactly isn’t clear, but what surely isn’t helping is we’re in the middle of a two-week shutdown of the facility for the summer.
Assembly workers return on July 14, but the 2025 model year build schedule only lasts until August 4 when the 2026 Corvettes start rolling off the line.
This is happening after there was already a problem in GM’s system which didn’t allow anyone to order the carbon fiber aero package. Unlike with the launch of the C8 generation back in 2020, GM doesn’t have a pandemic to blame for logistical snafus.
Some customers who ordered a 2025 Corvette ZR1 aren’t going to be too pleased that the 2026 ZR1s are listed at $7,200 more. It’s almost like GM purposely didn’t fulfill orders so they’d be pushed into the higher price range, but it would be silly to think an automaker would do such a thing.
According to Corvette Blogger, at the current pace just about 100 2025 Corvette ZR1s will be built before August 4. If that’s true, that means less than a third of the orders will be fulfilled. That’s not a great track record.
The big question is if enthusiasts and collectors will keep trying to get a ZR1 or will they give up and order an exotic European supercar instead?
